Like its predecessor, it merges the benefits of a mobile crane with the load capacity of a lattice boom crane. Previously, the Liebherr LG 1750 was among the most powerful cranes of its type available; however, the new Liebherr LG 1800-1.0 surpassed this capability. As one of the most powerful lattice boom cranes on wheels globally, the new crane can lift up to 800 tonnes, matching the capacity of its crawler crane equivalent, the Liebherr LR 1800-1.0.

The Liebherr LG 1800-1.0 is equipped with cutting-edge crane technology, including V-Frame®, VarioTray®, the ZF TraXon Torque transmission with ECOdrive, and WindSpeed load charts. Additionally, the equipment from the Liebherr LR 1800-1.0 can be adapted for use with the Liebherr LG 1800-1.0. The Liebherr LG 1800-1.0 effectively combines the mobility of a mobile crane with the load capacity of a crawler crane. With an axle load of only ten tonnes, this new crane is suitable for public roads worldwide. Its design is particularly advantageous for the wind industry, enabling efficient transportation from one turbine to another due to its three-metre-wide chassis. The Liebherr LG 1800-1.0 will be introduced in the first half of 2024 under the theme "The legend grows." Liebherr has engineered this new model to integrate the high load capacities of a lattice boom crane with the benefits of a mobile chassis.

A notable feature of the new nine-axle vehicle is its distinctive chassis. The innovative arrangement of the axles allows the lattice boom crane to operate in all markets globally. It can travel on public roads with all four supports at a total weight of 90 tonnes, or with just two supports at a total weight of 70 tonnes, and even without supports at around 50 tonnes. Unlike its predecessor, the eight-axle Liebherr LG 1750, the folding beams on the Liebherr LG 1800-1.0 are not telescopic. The required support base of 13 x 13 meters is adequate for the Liebherr LG 1800-1.0 to achieve substantial load capacities using the derrick system, as well as excellent erectable lengths without it. The fixed supports enhance stability, reduce weight, and simplify attachment and detachment, thanks to a quick coupling system. This new crane features one additional axle compared to its predecessor, utilizing standard axles from the Liebherr LTM crane product line.

With a chassis width of only 3.0 meters, the Liebherr LG 1800-1.0 is highly mobile, facilitating efficient movement on roads and construction sites while handling gradients of up to 25 percent. These attributes are particularly beneficial for operations in wind farms. As a mobile counterpart, the Liebherr LG 1800-1.0 can utilize the familiar boom systems from the Liebherr LR 1800-1.0, offering a main boom of up to 180 meters and a main boom luffing jib combination featuring a maximum hook height of 208 meters. Optimized wind power boom systems enable operations with a boom measuring 174 meters and an 18-meter lattice-type fixed jib at hub heights of 180 meters. The WindSpeed Load Charts, accommodating various permissible wind speeds of up to 13.4 m/s, further enhance flexibility and safety during operations in gusty conditions. Another advantage is the compatibility of the Liebherr LG 1800-1.0's equipment with that of the Liebherr LR 1800-1.0. All accessories, ranging from the head section to the lattice-type fixed jibs and whip lines, are identical, and all boom systems share the same designations as those of the Liebherr LR 1800-1.0. The ten-tonne counterweight plates can also be utilized with other Liebherr crawler cranes, resulting in cost savings and potentially reduced transport distances. The primary distinction from the Liebherr LR 1800-1.0 lies in a modified slewing platform that facilitates the erection of longer boom systems without the need for a derrick.
