T3 Projects has successfully taken delivery of three Liebherr cranes: the LTM 1300-6.3, LRT 1100-2.1, and LRT 1130-2.1. These rough terrain cranes are specifically designed for mining projects across the African continent and are renowned for their reliability, performance, and safety features.
In response to the growing size and complexity of recent construction endeavors, South African company T3 Projects has strategically chosen to enhance its fleet with these advanced mobile cranes from Liebherr. The LRT 1100-2.1 and LRT 1130-2.1 models are particularly suited for hoisting tasks in remote and challenging locations, while the LTM 1300-6.3 mobile crane significantly bolsters the fleet's capabilities with a maximum lifting capacity of 300 tonnes.
Ehingen (Donau), Germany, January 24, 2025 – Richard van den Barg, Managing Director of T3 Projects, articulates, “The addition of these new cranes marks a substantial expansion of our existing fleet, opening up new avenues for high-capacity hoisting tasks that our current equipment cannot accommodate. We intend to utilize these cranes for loading heavy materials, erecting structures, and executing high-precision hoisting operations.” T3 Projects specializes in mining and infrastructure ventures, managing all aspects from planning to erection and commissioning. The company employs over 900 professionals across South Africa, Mozambique, DR Congo, Ghana, and Burkina Faso.
Donovan Carroll, Operations Director at T3 Projects, emphasizes the necessity for high-quality, robust, and powerful equipment to withstand harsh working conditions. “Our choice of Liebherr cranes is driven by their established reputation for reliability and durability. Additionally, Liebherr's customer service is exemplary. Their rapid response to issues, comprehensive maintenance packages, and high availability of spare parts significantly minimize downtime, ensuring our projects proceed without interruption.” Carroll further highlights the importance of Liebherr's remote diagnostics system, which allows service personnel to connect to the crane's control system from afar, facilitating immediate support without the need for extensive travel.
T3 Projects has invested in two Liebherr rough terrain cranes—an LRT 1100-2.1 and an LRT 1130-2.1—ideal for the rugged conditions typical in mining projects. Their robust design enables them to endure a variety of weather conditions. Carroll states, “LRT rough terrain cranes are equipped with advanced safety systems, which align with our commitment to maximizing safety across all projects. Their user-friendly operation enhances safety and boosts efficiency.” The LRT 1100-2.1 features a telescopic boom that extends to an impressive 50 meters, while the LRT 1130-2.1 boasts a maximum lifting capacity of 130 tonnes and a powerful 60-meter telescopic boom. Both cranes utilize VarioBase®, allowing for extensive support configurations. Carroll notes that the improved transportability of these cranes translates into significant time and resource savings on-site, enhancing overall project efficiency and cost-effectiveness.
The new LTM 1300-6.3 crane will greatly expand T3 Projects' operational capabilities. “Our flagship 300-tonne crane will empower us to manage larger loads with precision and speed,” Carroll asserts with enthusiasm. This powerful 6-axle crane can handle a 90-meter telescopic boom while maintaining an axle load of just 12 tonnes. Its quick setup at job sites allows for rapid elevation and high lifting capacities. Additionally, the Liebherr 6-axle crane incorporates modern technologies such as VarioBase® and VarioBallast®, further enhancing its lifting capacity, flexibility, and safety.
Richard van den Barg concludes, “We have intentionally selected Liebherr as a long-term partner due to their status as industry leaders. We prioritize advanced technology, exceptional performance, and safety. Furthermore, we value Liebherr's outstanding customer service, including comprehensive maintenance packages and readily accessible spare parts.”
