Grúas Pirineos New Liebherr LTM 1650-8.1 Flagship Mobile Crane

Liebherr Mobile Cranes

Stronger Together: In an exciting development, Grúas Losfablos and Grutrans Cabos merged a year ago to form Grúas Pirineos. Both companies, individually and together, have chosen Liebherr as their trusted business partner. Grúas Pirineos was founded in 2024 as a result of that merger, with the goal of offering customers powerful and innovative machinery for larger projects. The LTM 1650-8.1 is the first machine in the newly established company’s fleet. “We want to offer our customers comprehensive services and meet the demand for machines capable of handling challenging tasks,” explains Emilio Losfablos, Managing Director of Grúas Pirineos. With a maximum lifting capacity of 700 tonnes, the new addition can optimally meet the demand for greater reach and lifting power. Losfablos explains the decision to purchase the LTM 1650-8.1: “We chose the best solution on the market when it comes to load-bearing capacity, reach, ease of assembly, innovation, performance, and safety.” “Liebherr sets the benchmark in the industry, demonstrating this year after year through innovative products, services, and after-sales management,” says Emilio Losfablos.

The LTM 1650-8.1 is the successor to the legendary LTM 1500-8.1, the best-selling large crane ever. This heavy-duty crane has the same genetic concept as its predecessor – ultimate performance on eight axles. The result is that the 8-axle crane can complete hoisting work in the 700-tonne class or even higher with ease. It therefore has a nominal lifting capacity of 700 tonnes. In a lifting capacity comparison, the LTM 1650-8.1 exceeds its predecessor’s capacity by between 15 and 50 percent, The Liebherr LTM 1650-8.1 mobile crane impresses with its versatility and top-tier performance. It is available with two telescopic boom lengths, 54 meters, and 80 meters, and is equipped with a Y-telescopic boom guying system, which significantly increases the load-bearing capacity and enhances lateral stability. In addition, the crane features a 91-meter luffing jib and a 62-meter lattice-type fixed jib.

Grúas Pirineos will use the Liebherr LTM 1650-8.1 for a wide variety of applications across the wind energy, industrial, and construction sectors. To start with, the new crane will carry out lifting jobs in the wind power industry and the assembly of girders for infrastructure projects.

Spain shines brightly as Europe’s utility-scale solar energy leader, according to new data from Global Energy Monitor. The country has more utility-scale solar capacity in operation (29.5 GW) than any other European nation, more capacity under construction (7.8 GW), and in the early stages of development (106.1 GW) than the next three European countries combined.  Spain was one of Europe’s renewable energy pioneers, installing more than 20 GW of wind power in the early 2000s. Within the past few years, Spain’s innovative coal phase-out has made it a blueprint for a just transition from coal to clean sources of power.

Spain authorized 300 renewable projects, adding 28 GW of capacity this year which is an $18.4 billion investment in solar, wind, and hydropower. Their target is an impressive 81% renewable electricity by 2030. Its National Integrated Energy and Climate Plan, establishes ambitious targets for utility-scale solar photovoltaic (PV) (57 GW) and solar thermal (5 GW), small-scale PV for residential, commercial, and industrial “self-consumption” (19 GW), onshore wind (59 GW) and offshore wind (3 GW), while accelerating its coal phase-out date from 2030 to 2025. Spain continues to launch emblematic energy transition projects such as the 1.9 GW Nudo Mudéjar de Andorra, a cluster of solar (1,204 MW) and wind (695 MW) projects designed to replace the former 1,102 MW Teruel coal plant; and the 100 MW Zorita solar farm currently under construction near the retired José Cabrera nuclear plant.

There are 5 notable infrastructure projects currently taking place in Spain. The VENERGY+ lithium battery manufacturing plant in the town of Navalmoral de la Mata, Cáceres, Extremadura. This project aims to manufacture zero-emission batteries for electric vehicles and the factory will receive 100% energy from renewable sources. The AS Madrid-Barajas Photovoltaic Solar Plant 142.42 MW project's goal is to meet the self-consumption demand for electricity at the Adolfo Suárez Madrid-Barajas Airport, and to be carbon neutral by 2026.  The Gran Delfin Private Residences & Hotel Tower Development Phase Two project will meet the growing demand for luxurious residential facilities as well as obtaining the Leed Gold seal of sustainability certification. The construction of the Entrenúcleos Living Residential Complex in Sevilla, Andalusia, and the Alma Residential Complex in Granada, Andalusia will also support the growing demand for housing in the region.

Spain is also investing in several high-speed rail projects to improve its infrastructure. The Y vasca is a high-speed line that will connect the three capitals of the Basque Country region. The line will also strengthen rail connections with the rest of Europe and the Iberian Peninsula. The Madrid–Extremadura Line includes a 400 km (250 mi) line that will connect the western region of Extremadura to Madrid.

Grúas Pirineos will undoubtedly put their new Liebherr LTM 1650-8.1 to good use as they contribute to the continued development of their country's infrastructure and renewable energy initiatives. Having Liebherr as a trusted industry partner whose company initiatives. align with Pirineos goals & objectives is definitely the right choice!
