Krandienst Schulz operates the Liebherr LTM 1450-8.1 to dismantle tall tower cranes during power plant construction. With its 85-meter telescopic mast and short setup times, this crane is particularly well-suited for construction crane assemblies.

The company has recently established a new, modern headquarters just outside Hamburg, now located in Braak, Schleswig-Holstein. This spacious facility features a high-spec workshop dedicated to the maintenance and repair of the firm’s 30 Liebherr cranes. Among them is the Liebherr LTM 1450-8.1, which, although just a few months old, boasts impressive performance characteristics, enabling it to efficiently handle the assembly of tower cranes up to 80 meters tall.

On February 7, 2025, Markus Solms, Technical Field Sales at Krandienst Schulz, commented, “Our new LTM 1450-8.1 is truly a fast-erecting crane.” He noted that this Liebherr crane, delivered last year, has already been utilized multiple times for construction crane assembly projects. Its most recent application was during the dismantling of a 70-meter-tall tower crane at a new waste-to-energy plant. Solms highlighted that the 85-meter on-board telescopic boom allows for significantly reduced setup and deployment times, enabling the team to be ready for the next crane dismantling within approximately three hours.
Solms further remarked on the crane’s capabilities, stating, “In certain applications, it can match the lifting capacities of the LTM 1500-8.1.” He emphasized that the VarioBallast® system allows for a minimum radius of just five meters, making it exceptionally effective in confined spaces, particularly in the bustling center of Hamburg. The adjustable VarioBase® support enhances the crane's flexibility, making it an invaluable asset for the company.
The 8-axle mobile crane is stationed at the new branch in Braak, near Ahrensburg. However, to effectively serve its numerous customers and partners in the Hamburg region, Krandienst Schulz maintains additional sites in Bönningstedt to the west and Stade to the south. The recent relocation just outside Hamburg positions the company advantageously, with a state-of-the-art facility spanning 17,000 square meters, including a filling station, a washing station, and partially covered crane parking areas, all designed for optimal traffic connectivity.
The workshop bay, measuring 900 square meters, is a focal point of the new facility and is a source of pride for owner and Managing Director Günter Sichward. He stated, “This workshop provides us with everything necessary to maintain our fleet efficiently. Our 16-tonne gantry crane enables us to dismantle telescopic booms from our mobile cranes, and the bright workshop includes a brake testing station that serves both our vehicles and functions as an official TÜV testing station.”

Founded in 1998, Krandienst Schulz currently employs 80 professionals and is recognized as a leading crane services provider in the Hamburg region. The fleet includes 16 heavy goods vehicles and tractor units, alongside approximately 30 mobile and mobile construction cranes. In April, the company will welcome the Liebherr MK88 Plus, marking the introduction of the fifth crane of this series. “Sixteen years ago, we were the first in Hamburg to utilize an MK crane - the MK100. The abundance of construction sites in Hamburg allows us to fully leverage the advantages these cranes offer. The MK crane is particularly well-suited for our needs, as it often requires only partial roadway closures for operations. I estimate that 95 percent of these missions are MK-specific and could not be executed with conventional telescopic cranes,” Sichward explained.

Krandienst Schulz will soon be acquiring its fifth mobile construction crane from Liebherr in the form of an MK 88 Plus.

Furthermore, Günter Sichward has transitioned the entire crane fleet to Liebherr. He cites high resale value and exceptional service as key factors in his decision, stating, “One significant advantage is that our workshop technicians only need training for one manufacturer, allowing our operators to transition seamlessly between cranes. Additionally, we prefer having multiple identical cranes of the same type in operation to streamline approval processes and facilitate immediate replacement of spare parts when necessary. Generally, the required parts from Ehingen arrive the next day, as do Liebherr technicians, if needed, even during the night.”
Liebherr-Werk Ehingen GmbH is a leading manufacturer of mobile and crawler cranes. Its range of mobile cranes extends from 2-axle 35-tonne cranes to heavy-duty cranes with a lifting capacity of 1,200 tonnes and a 9-axle chassis.
